Chris Ramos

Chris Ramos (MM in Wind Conducting, University of New Mexico, BS in Music Education, Texas A&M University-Commerce, BM in Piano Performance, Texas A&M University-Commerce) is currently a DMA student in instrumental conducting at The Hartt School studying with Glen Adsit and Edward Cumming. He assists in conducting Hartt’s Omni Wind Ensemble and the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble, as well as teaches courses in undergraduate conducting, brass methods, and jazz musicianship for music education majors. Before Hartt, Chris served as a band director at Dalat International School in Penang, Malaysia, where he taught classical and jazz music in performing and theory courses across grades 6-12. At Dalat, general musicianship in elementary, and then band in middle school were required courses for all students, and so issues of access and inclusion were at the forefront of the music teachers’ work. In 2016, he received the Joanne Kealinohomoku Prize from the Society of Ethnomusicology Southwest for scholarship combining interests in both band and border studies.
