Extraordinary Ensembles – Access, Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity

Managing diverse learners and diverse needs in large performing ensembles (music, dance, and theatre) is a difficult task in which, if you are like me, success, failure, and most often the places in between, are a deep part of the educator’s experience. In this class we will critically explore intersections of scholarship around performing arts education, gender, race, and disability in order to reflect on our own programs related to issues of access, inclusion, equity, and diversity. Each day we will look at our performing ensembles through a different critical lens while also hearing from an expert in the field and sharing our own experiences. Together we will brainstorm solutions and imagine possibilities in art-making that will help shape a better tomorrow for our artists-in-training.
