Teaching Children How to Create/Conduct Music

Teaching Children How to Create and Conduct Music: The Colgrass Music This course is designed for anyone who wants a simple method for teaching children how to create music. Primary and secondary school teachers will be especially interested in this course since the new National Core Arts Standards include teaching and assessing composition. Glen Adsit will teach the Colgrass sytem of graphic notation composition. Graphic notation is a simple way to learn how to compose using a special shorthand notation that has proven successful in teaching students of all ages how to write for ensembles of any size. This method does not require knowledge of traditional harmony or music theory composition. The teacher will learn how to introduce concepts of creativity in the classroom and a step-by-step approach to composition through fully graphic symbols to semi-notation ending with a fully notated work. Don't be intimated to teach composition any longer. This method works for any age and in any type of music classroom. Teach your students to compose and have fun doing it.
