A Message for Hartt Summerterm Masters Students

A Welcome Note from The Music Education Faculty for All Graduate Music Education Students

Dear Hartt Graduate Music Education Students:

We are looking forward to seeing all of you this summer! Please read below.

Newly Matriculated Students

First of all, congratulations on being accepted to the Hartt Masters in Music Education degree program. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome you to campus this summer. Here is information regarding the next steps.

FOR 2022
  1. Music Theory and Music History exams will be made available on Blackboard for 48 hours—all of June 21 and 22. You can start each exam separately (one for theory, another one for history) at any time in those 48 hours, no later than 10:00 pm June 22, and will have 2 hours to complete each exam. Each exam will close automatically after 2 hours. You can test your technology and Blackboard accesson June 19 and 20 with short practice tests. Details about this will come at a later date.
  2. Ear Training exams are individual 15-minute appointments with Professor Menhart, June 21 and 22. Sign up for an ear training exam appointment here.
  3. Individual academic advising appointments with Dr. Haston and on oline Orientation session will be on June 23, 5:00-6:00 pm.

1. You do not need to register for any classes at this time. We will actually administratively place you in one required course (Research and Writing). Registration for all other courses will take place after placement exams.

2. The History and Theory faculty members will work hard to evaluate the exams that evening into the next morning so that new music education students can meet with Dr. Haston remotely on June 23. This meeting will serve as Academic Advising (as we will know what History and Theory courses you should be ready to take).

3. Information regarding Summerterm housing can be found at: http://harttweb.hartford.edu/summerterm/housing.aspx

Please contact Dr. Haston with any academic advising questions you have. haston@hartford.edu

Returning Graduate Students

Please remember you must register on the Summerterm website rather than the university website. If you are having trouble accessing your Summerterm website account, please contact Matt Cramer (cramer@hartford.edu).

If you have any academic advising questions, contact Dr. Warren Haston (haston@hartford.edu) prior to registering for classes. He will complete an audit to make sure you are enrolled in the correct courses for next summer.

If you are planning to graduate this summer, schedule an appointment with Dr. Haston. He will audit your files with you and sign the form so that you are placed in the University system to graduate. Your official graduation date will not be until mid-September, which can cause delays in pay raises. Check with your school district about this.

You will need to complete a Capstone Portfolio prior to graduation. Please find the directions here: Capstone Portfolio and feel free to ask any questions.

Thank you,
The Music Education Division Faculty
