A Message for Hartt Summerterm Masters Students

A Welcome Note from The Music Education Faculty for All Graduate Music Education Students

Dear Hartt Graduate Music Education Students:

We are looking forward to seeing all of you this summer! Please read below.

Newly Matriculated Students

First of all, congratulations on being accepted to the Hartt Masters in Music Education degree program. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome you to campus this summer. Here is information regarding the next steps.

  1. Music Theory and Music History exams will be made available on Blackboard for 48 hours—all of June 21 and 22 (new dates). You can start each exam separately (one for theory, another one for history) at any time in those 24 hours, no later than 10:00 pm June 22, and will have 2 hours to complete each exam. Each exam will close automatically after 2 hours.
  2. Ear Training exams are individual 15-minute appointments with Professor Menhart, 10:00-12:30, June 22 and 23 (different dates than Theory and History). If you need an appointment time outside of those times because of your work schedule, contact Professor Menhart directly (menhart@hartford.edu). Sign up for an ear training exam appointment here.
  3. Individual academic advising appointments with Dr. Bond remain as planned June 24 and 25. If you already signed up, no action is required. If you have not signed up, click here to do so. Sign up for a digital advising appointment here.
  4. Not an exam, but there will be an online Summerterm Orientation session with Dr. Haston late on June 23. Details about this will come at a later date.

  1. You do not need to register for any classes at this time. We will actually administratively place you in one required course (Research and Writing). Registration for all other courses will take place after entrance exams.
  2. Placement exams will take place on June 22 and 23--online. The schedule for that day will be:

Placement Exam Schedule

Ear Training, June 22 or 2310:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Music History, June 221:00-3:00 p.m.
Break3:00-3:30 p.m.
Music Theory, June 223:30-5:30 p.m.
Summerterm Orientation, June 234:00-5:00 p.m.
  1. The History and Theory faculty members will work hard to evaluate the exams that evening into the next morning so that new music education students can meet with Dr. Bond virtually on June 24 or 25. This meeting will serve as Academic Advising (as we will know what History and Theory courses you should be ready to take).
  2. Information regarding Summerterm housing can be found at: http://harttweb.hartford.edu/summerterm/housing.aspx

Please contact Dr. Bond with any academic advising questions you have. vbond@hartford.edu

Returning Graduate Students

Please remember you must register on the Summerterm website rather than the university website.

If you have any academic advising questions, contact Dr. Vanessa Bond (vbond@hartford.edu) prior to registering for classes. She will complete an audit to make sure you are enrolled in the correct courses for next summer.

If you are planning to graduate in August, schedule an appointment with Dr. Haston. He will audit your files with you and sign the form so that you are placed in the University system to graduate.

You will need to complete a Capstone Portfolio prior to graduation. Please find the directions here: Capstone Portfolio and feel free to ask any questions.

Thank you,
The Music Education Division Faculty
